50-years-old women has lost $1.2 million as a result of romantic relationship with a Facebook-friend from Singapore. The man sent her a friend request on Facebook in January this year. He has introduced himself as an American investor and engineer.

Inspired by promises of a romantic getaway in Singapore, the women let yourself fall in love and develop a romantic relationship with him.

“After many years of married life, I craved the companionship of a man because my husband was always working and hardly at home,’ she said.

The man continuously asked money and the women always found opportunities to help him. After using up her savings, she resorted to taking out unsecured loans from banks, and her insurance. She had transferred $1.2 million before her children explained her that she had been a scam victim.

A romance scam or dating scam is an online fraud involving pretended romantic intentions towards a prey. A romance scammer play on emotional triggers to get you to provide money, gifts or personal details. Online dating scammers usually target people older than themselves. In the case of a male scammer, they often target middle aged women in their 50’s to 60’s. They believe these people to be ideal targets as they are usually richer and more vulnerable.
