Pop mega-star Madonna has launched a charity campaign to raise funds for Malawi’s orphans. California-based Ripple, one of the partners of the fundraising project, has promised double the amount of collected donations.
It is not clear whether Ripple will donate XRP tokens or fiat money, but the company said that it will “match each dollar donated to this campaign”.
The campaign will run through August 31 in honor of Madonna’s 60th birthday, on August 16. The mega-star aims is to raise $60,000, which will go directly to meals, uniforms, schools, and healthcare for the orphaned children in Malawi, most of which have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS.
“I have an unwavering commitment to providing vulnerable children with a loving home. For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most,” Madonna wrote on her Facebook page.
The Raising Malawi foundation was founded by Madonna in 2006. The organization provides community support, education & health programs, and scholarships for the orphans in the country. In 2017, the organization opened a children’s hospital in Blantyre, the second-largest city in Malawi. This year the foundation opened 14 schools for more than 10,000 children across the country. Since the Raising Malawi launch, Madonna has also adopted four children from the country.
