The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has successfully completed trial of blockchain-based ticket sales system. The organization developed a mobile ticketing app which was created with the blockchain technology.
Trials were conducted on the UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and the Atletico de Madrid in Talinn, Estonia, on August 15, 2018. The new app will streamline the act of buying tickets for soccer matches, making it convenient and secure.
The new online ticket sales system is designed to provide a secure ticket distribution and specially to prevent the forgery of tickets and duplication, which can be made via the blockchain technology’s distributed ledger.
The Android and iOS based app has already used for distributing all the tickets for the game. People entering the stadium were able to prove that they had bought the tickets for the match using Bluetooth devices.
If the tests continue to be successful, UEFA will keep using the blockchain based software in games all over Europe in the near future.
