Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a major French soccer team, has shared plans to issue its own cryptocurrency as a way to incentivize participation from its fans all over the world.
On Tuesday, PSG announced a partnership with Socios, a Malta-based blockchain startup hat will implement blockchain Fan Token Offering.
It is planned that the PSG starts issuing its proprietary tokens the next year spring, becoming potentially one of the first soccer clubs worldwide.
PSG’s coin is aimed to allow fans who hold the token to be able to vote for and decide on less strategic matters, such as team jersey choices or opponents in friendly matches, according to the report.
Token holders will get access to exclusive offers such as participating in certain matches and meeting with players.
“Paris Saint-Germain is determined to leverage the opportunities that cryptocurrency can provide. This revolutionary technology will have an important impact on the club’s overall business strategy and the way we engage with our fanbase,” PSG’s chief partnership officer Marc Armstrong said.
