Switzerland’s postal service Swiss Post and state-owned telecom provider Swisscom have partnered to launch a blockchain platform. The two also said they are open to other partners joining them on the project.
According to the announcement, the system will be more energy efficient than “public blockchains” offerings:
“In contrast to “public blockchains” (e.g. bitcoin and Ethereum), this private blockchain infrastructure requires much less energy, since it can only be used by identified users who have a contractual relationship with the providers of an application. This enables more efficient agreement procedures as well as significantly higher security and performance.”
The launch of the blockchain apps is scheduled fo the second quarter of 2019 — they will be focusing on government agencies and companies which desire to digitize business processes in a “secure and verified” manner.
