The University of Basel has awarded Vitalik Buterin with an honorary doctorate. The co-founder of Ethereum has been granted an honorary degree for his “outstanding achievements” in the fields of crypto, smart contracts, and the design of institutions by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
“He makes a groundbreaking contribution to promoting decentralization and equal participation in the digital revolution,” the university wrote.
Buterin himself admits that, today, payment sector is the most developed field of blockchain application, which allows maximum use of its capabilities. In general, he explains blockchain trend in corporations by the blockchain tech hype and personal preferences of top managers.
As a reminder, Vitalik Buterin announced Ethereum 2.0 launch in a keynote presentation at the Devcon4 conference in Prague Oct. 31. The new ecosystem, dubbed ‘Serenity,’ includes multiple projects which have been developed by Ethereum’s team since 2014. With the Casper protocol implementation, Ethereum will switch from PoW to PoS. According to Buterin, after the Ethereum Casper introduction, the team will continue to improve the code.
