Facebook is hiring a lead commercial counsel for its initiatives with blockchain technology.
According to the new job posting at the company’s website, the position will be responsible for “drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts related our blockchain initiatives, including partnerships needed to launch new products and expand such products internationally.”
The commercial counsel will also structure Facebook’s relationships with key partners and the commercial aspects of the products and programs. The candidate should be able to “manage numerous deals” and have a proven lawyer’s qualification: a J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar are a must.
A candidate for the position also must to be expert in the tech field: “5+ years of legal experience, including 4+ years of technology transactions experience,” particularly with blockchain or payments technology and related legal issues. “Strong interest in mobile and alternative payments” is preferred.
Facebook’s intention related to blockchain have been known for a few months. Since the beginning of the month, social media giant has been hiring 20 specialist, including: threat investigator, technology communications director, data scientist, two product managers and a product designer, marketing and brand strategy managers, various UX researchers and other roles.
In December 2018, the social media giant was hiring five new staff members for blockchain team at its Menlo Park, California. Back in May, Facebook launched its blockchain team, with the reported aim of exploring the emerging technology.
