Dutch billionaire John de Mol, the businessman who created the “Big Brother” reality television program has filed a lawsuit against Facebook for using his name and image in fake ads.
De Mol’s lawyers told an Amsterdam District Court judge that facebook Inc. had failed to prevent the ads and had not responded in a timely fashion to complaints.
The ads encouraged people to participate in fake cryptocurrency-related businesses allegedly backed by De Mol. De Mol want the court to order the company to fix its procedures to automatically block ads featuring De Mol and cryptocurrency.
“I don’t know what reality Facebook lives in, but that doesn’t work,” Lawyer Jacqueline Schaap said.
Facebook said they cannot track ads on all of its platforms, adding that fraudulent ads were removed after receiving a complaint.
