Apple is not going to launch its own cryptocurrency similarly to Facebook, the company’s CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with French media magazine Les Echos on Oct. 4,
“I truly think currency should remain in the hands of the state. I’m not comfortable with the idea that a private entity can create a modern currency,” he said.
Apple is striving to share payment market with Visa, Mastercard and PayPal via Apple Pay.
As previously reported, Visa, MasterCard, PayPal and Stripe, that had joined Facebook Inc. as founding members of the Libra Association, were wavering over whether to officially support the crypto project. Four payments companies were hesitating to officially support Facebook in order to maintain good relations with global regulators.
