Bitcoin has become the third most popular method for online payments in Italy, according to a recent report by marketing analysis firm SEMRush. The first and second place went to online payment provider PayPal and local prepaid cash card provider PostePay.
It strikes the attention that Italians use bitcoin for online payments more often than Visa, Mastercard or American Express payment systems.
On average, PayPal is used more than 1,383,000 times each month, Bitcoin — more than 215,800 times, American Express — only 189,000 times. Other credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are reportedly only used for direct payments 33,950 times each month.
As previously reported, back in February, Kaspersky Lab analysts unveiled that one in eight people around the world use cryptocurrencies to make online purchases.
Moreover, data from Coinmap.org shows that the number of bitcoin accepted companies has grown by more than 700% over the past six years.
