Amazon workers went on strike on Monday, demanding increased protective gear and hazard pay for the period of the coronavirus pandemic.
The strikers at the JFK8 warehouse demanded the company close down the large warehouse for thorough cleaning after reports of multiple employees testing positive for the coronavirus. Later, the company announced that it had fired the organizer, and sent the workers to paid quarantine.
Amazon said that they had taken “extreme measures” to disinfect the premises and provide employees with protective clothing. The company sayid “the vast majority of employees continue to carry out the heroic work of delivering goods to customers every day.”
