The alleged BitClub network scammers are looking to be released from the county jail over fears of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Goethe’s lawyer Rodney Villazor emphasized, if “the virus enters a prison, then it cannot be stopped. Mr. Goethe’s health risk is growing every day. It is only a matter of time before the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey, has its very own COVID-19 outbreak.”
Jobadiah Weeks says the correctional facility has “horrible health statistics.” According to the last year’s report of the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Homeland Security, the facility poses “a significant threat to the health and safety of detainees”.
As a reminder, four BitClub schemers were arrested in December 2019. BitClub Network was a $722 million Ponzi scheme wherein money invested by new members was used to pay out to older members while those behind it stole millions of dollars in the process.
