Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling has integrated blockchain technology into its processes to prove the authenticity of Top Time, its limited-edition timepiece. Breitling is using a blockchain solution from Arianee, a Paris-based consortium, specializing in digital identification of luxury goods.
Every purchaser of the Top Time luxury wristwatch will be given a blockchain-based digital passport that servers as the unique digital identity of each Top Time watch.
Top Watch owners will be provided with an e-warranty card with a QR code that can be scanned to download an encrypted private wallet. This wallet stores the unique digital identity and entire details of each timepiece. Owners of Top Time will be able to transfer their ownership of the product, and this data will also be recorded on the blockchain.
Antonio Carriero, head of Breitling’s digital transformation department, believes that integrating of blockchain will allow the company to establish more trusting relationships with customers who will no longer be afraid of buying fakes. Moreover, the blockchain will provide a high level of communication with customers without violating their privacy.
