Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has patented a new blockchain-based solution which helps the record industry to exposing copycats.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Alibaba a patent for a system that solves one of the major problems of the recording industry — copyright protection for music tracks by posting and checking this content on the blockchain.
Alibaba claims that this method of verifying songs will help prevent the efforts of people who violate copyrights, including hashing music tracks to verify their authenticity.
“Currently, there is still no platform that can be used to perform a similarity analysis on musical works to identify plagiarized or imitated songs,” Alibaba wrote.
This is not the first Alibaba’s attempt to use blockchain for copyright protection. Back in 2017, the company began to use blockchain in the intellectual property accounting system of global enterprises and brands.
