Crypto scammers are seeking donations for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by impersonating members of the Olympic Committee.

A series of emails from alleged members of the Committee has been asking people to donate to the organization in Tokyo. Scammers asked victims for donations in cryptocurrencies so that “Japanese organizers can recover from the economic impact produced by the postponement of the Olympic games”.

“Member of the Olympic Committee” explained that the organization has to deal with the loss of money invested in hotels, airline tickets, infrastructure materials and therefore donations are required. Scammers claim that donors will be eligible to purchase a ticket for the Olympics Games at a discount of 30%.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the postponement of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The delay in the Olympics games has triggered a series of online crypto-related scams, including an email from alleged members of the International Olympic Committee.
